Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Chirinos Coffee

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Chirinos CoffeeSainsbury have gone for broke with a range of Taste The Difference coffees served in Illy-style tins. Not quite as sophisticated as the Illy tins, but better than a placcy bag.

The excitement was palpable when we pulled the ring pull on the top - expecting the Illy style rush of nitrogen and coffee mix exploding out of the tin. What a disappointment - even a half dead Nat after a night on the curry could displace more wind than came out of this tin. But it's a tasty little number this one - it frothed up nicely in our caffetiere and looked just plain appetising. They claim complex flavours - but we couldn't get them. But it is a nice tasting coffee - slightly more citrus than bitter and one that anyone could make, drink and love. Every cup we made came out the same - it's just impossible to cock this one up. There's two more coffees in this range - and to be honest we couldn't tell the difference between any of them. So buy 'em all - they're all cheap anyway!  8/10

What the Manufacturer's say:

"Chirinos is a cooperative of just over 520 small holder coffee growers nestled away on the slopes of the tropical Andes in north west Peru. Coffee production in this region is the primary activity, providing over 90% of the population's income. It is bursting with complex flavours, with hints of soft stone fruit and a luxuriously smooth and soft mouth feel."

This brew has all the rustic qualities you would expect from a coffee farmed by giant gerbils out of their secret lair hidden deep in the Peruvian mountains. When not plotting world domination they spend all their spare time perfecting the ideal blend and have achieved in making a fairly decent cuppa. Faint echos of smoke can be detected in the aftertaste, most likely the result of their less fortunate hamster cousins being ritually burned at the stake on an ancient Gerbil religious site located near to the headquarters of Gerbil Coffee Inc. Although I enjoyed this coffee, I can't help but feel that it would be pointless for me to explain why due to the imminent uprising of the Guinea militia and our inevitable demise at the hands of the Guinea Pirates currently surrounding our ports and important military instillations. Instead I feel I should simply offer you some advice. RUN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RUN, THEY'RE COMING FOR US AND THERE IS NOTHING ANYONE CAN DO
